Our Story
Bar People started in 2016, as founder John Griffith stood frustrated outside a sold-out show at Café Lena. It wasn’t in the newspaper! John decided there must be a better way to find out about local nightlife. Newspapers only list a handful of events. John envisioned a place where local musicians, fans, and venues could post events, share pictures & videos, and talk about what’s going on in Saratoga. And so the Bar People Facebook group was born!
Before long, thousands of people were using the Bar People on Facebook to find shows and post videos. Local bars and restaurants found it was a great outlet to promote events and draw a crowd. There were so many posts that the original purpose – finding great live music – was getting obscured. John realized that Bar People was getting too big to fit in a Facebook group. He needed a better platform.
John teamed up with Steve & Carla Richards, long-time Saratoga bar people, and owners of the technology company Garnet River. The goal: a Bar People website where locals and tourists can easily find night life activities in the capital district.
As Bar People grows, we aim to become a hub for local musicians, fans, and venues across the US. Focusing on smaller bands and nightlife with a distinctly local feel, we connect great people with a great time through live music, events, and food & drink.
There are thousands of fantastic local bands and bars out there you’ll never find on Trip Advisor or the big concert aggregators. Use Bar People to find them. We’ll see you out there!
